Weekly Round Up – 25th February 2019

Saturday dawned cool and slightly foggy at Kingsbury Water Park, but this did not deter almost 600 eager runners, with an encouraging club turn out amongst them.

It was also a week of milestones with three club members reaching their 50th park runs. Congratulations go to Sandra Ingram, Darren Truman and Sarah French.

Rob Mace was the first Peeler home in 15th place overall in 19.45 mins. Next came Mike Shelton in 21.46 mins followed by Mark Boffey (23.12), Garth Cox (23.19), Stuart Hatton (24.33), who finished just ahead of Dave Fern (24.34). Darren Truman was next home in 25.01 mins then came Mark Webster (25.48), Sandra Ingram (27.02), Carolyne Browne (27.19), Tim Mudd (27.49), Michael Stevenson (28.15), Mike Cooper (29.14) and Sophie Galloway (29.46). Sarah French and Ann Hill finished together in 33.09 mins followed by Zoe Schnepp who completed her first park run in 2 years in 34.32 mins. Nicola Bannister completed the run in 35.27 mins.

Away from Kingsbury, Jackie Tierney tried the new Churchfields Farm event near Droitwich, finishing in 34.14 mins, Allan Williams completed the Rosliston event in 26.01 mins and Andrew Pickard set a quick 21.54 mins at the Clumber Park event in Yorkshire.

The main event this weekend was the Carsington Water Half Marathon held in the Derbyshire peak district. Due to numbers the race was run twice, on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday Peel member Ash Goodman set a new personal best finishing in a very decent 1:48:38 hrs. Not to be outdone fellow club member Ash Baldwin ran the Sunday event finishing in second overall in a blistering 1:18:37 hrs.

On Thursday the club hosted the second of a series of coaching sessions held by England Athletics coach John Skevington, focusing on posture and running techniques. The event was well attended and well received with the final workshop scheduled for March.

Peel Road Runners meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm at the Snowdome, new members are always welcome. For further details or to get in touch please see the club’s website or Facebook page.
