Weekly Round up – 18th November 2024

This week saw the return of the local Derby 10 mile road race.  What was the 8th edition of the race, saw the race start and finish at the iconic Derby Arena. The route is flat and fast, providing the potential for a personal best.  Representing Peel Road Runners was Wayne King, who took full advantage of the fast course and coming in with a staggering PB of 59.07.

Also representing Peel Road Runners this week was Shane Lewis at the Run Alton Towers half marathon.  Run Alton Towers was the first event of its kind at the iconic Alton Towers Resort and starts and finishes amongst the rides within the estate.  Following the paths and roads within Alton Towers Resort you can take on the 5k, 10k or half marathon distance. Shane completed the half marathon course in a fantastic time of 1:41:42.               

Parkrun events 

Going on holiday doesn’t stop the Peelers from lacing their trainers, with Tony Bryan, proving just that by completing the Faelledparken Park Run whist on holiday in Copenhagen.  Tony completed the course in (24:54).  

The Peelers also took full advantage of the local Parkrun events too.  Runners attended the local Tamworth Castle Grounds Parkrun with Billy King the first Peeler back in an impressive (23:56) followed by Allen King (23:58), Garth Cox (24:26), Marcus Fairburn (28:32), Sophie Galloway (31:29), Lisa Barnes (31:42), Dave Fern (32:00) and Jacqueline Tierney (33.36).

There was also a strong attendance at Kingsbury Waterpark Parkrun too.  With Katie Stretton the first Peeler to cross the line in a fantastic (26:03); followed by Darren Truman (28:56), Roger Eaststaff (33:25), Claire Guffick (33:26), Helen Dempsey (34:02), Neil Dempsey (34:03), Ann Hill (34:45), Lee Guffick (36:38), Chris Norris (1:05:20), Nicola Bannister (1:05:22) and Alison Dolphin (1:05:27)

Many Peelers travelled further afield too with Emma Pick finishing Rugby in a fantastic (19:02), and at Conkers Roger Lloyd came in at (25:14).  Michael Hughes ventured to Newent and finished in (41.05), Stuart Hatton ventured to Sandringham and finished in (28:22).  Ben Dorkins attended Holbrooks and finished in (23:11).  Ian Cooper attended Market Bosworth and finished in (28.26).  At Fletcher Moss Stephanie Attenborough finished in (48:27) and Joanne Sharman cam in at (51:31).  At Beacon Chris Taylor finished in (27.04) and Stella Taylor finished in (31:24)

 Peelers walking group Peel Road Runners walking group meets on a Tuesday evening in the carpark by the Tamworth Castle skate park at 6.50pm.  The group walks various routes for around 1 hour each week.  Come along and give it a try, details can be found at www.peelroadrunners.co.uk
