Peel runners were out in force this weekend despite the miserable weather.
At Kingsbury Water parkrun on Saturday morning, the miserable conditions contributed to a slower than normal outing. Mark Boffey led the club home in 25.26 mins, followed by Garth Cox in 25.35, George Hope in 27.12, Jackie Tierney in 27.57, Jo Insley in 28.31, Lisa Fletcher in 29.52, Caroline Evans 35.48 and Alison Dolphin in 36.32. Elsewhere Robert Hirst (26.57) and Christine Norris (38.58) completed the Rosliston parkrun in Derbyshire. Marcus Fairburn (26.33) and Michael Stevenson (28.43) visited the Solihull event.
At the Birmingham half marathon on Sunday in miserable conditions, Darren O’Leary was first home from the club in a new personal best of 1:40.03hrs followed by Phil Neale in 1:42.05 and Judith Matthews in 1:49.05.
The club was represented in the Yorkshire marathon with Andrew Pickard achieving a new personal best of 3:47.20hrs and Donna Lancaster also finishing in a new best time of 4:02.08. Bob Donovan finished in 4:54.53 as the fastest over 75 age group competitor as he nears his 100th marathon.
Darren Truman and Ian Grigg both competed in the Moor Green Duathlon (cycling & running) finishing in 1:11.02 hrs and 1:25.21 respectively.
Martin Hollamby completed the Lakes in a Day Ultra race in the lake district, a 50 mile off road race across severe terrain with 2.5 miles of vertical ascent, and in appalling weather. He finished in 14:00hrs and was 28th out of a field of 450. Well done Martin on an amazing achievement!
At a slightly less intense level, Mike Shelton arranged a trip to London for a few hardy members to run the route of the London Landmarks half marathon, albeit at a more leisurely pace than the main event with the odd pub stop, they even managed to see some sunshine! Thanks go to Mike for organising the first of what may become a regular series of outings.
Peel Road Runners meet at 7pm each Tuesday and Thursday at the Snowdome, new members are always welcome.
